Director Lived and Living Experience
Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs Council of Tasmania
Fixed Term Part Time (0.8 FTE) | Hobart based | SCHADS Level 8
Ready to step into a role where lived and living experience (LLE) drives statewide change? The ATDC is looking for a strategic, accomplished and values-led senior executive to shape how Tasmania hears, understands and acts on the voices of people with a LLE of alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) use.
About the role
The Director of Lived & Living Experience provides strategic oversight of the ATDC’s LLE programs and projects — and has a strong focus on systemic advocacy. You’ll lead the thinking, positioning, and influence needed to ensure LLE is not an afterthought in Tasmania’s ATOD policy environment, but a driving force.
A core part of the role is leading the ATDC’s Lived Experience Advocate Service. You’ll ensure the service is delivering high-quality well-supported advocacy, and that voices from LLE are being engaged safely, ethically and with meaningful purpose.
This attractive package includes:
- An annual salary between $129– $134k pa (subject to skills and experience)
- Optional salary packaging
- Flexible and family-friendly work arrangements
- A monthly phone plan
What you’ll be doing
- Leading systemic advocacy that elevates priorities identified by the LLE community– getting people together to discuss issues, writing submissions, and creating opportunities for voices to be heard.
- Managing and growing the ATDC’s Lived Experience Advocate Service: ensuring a strong policy framework underlies the service, and keeping it operating sustainably and with impact.
- Building and maintaining trusted relationships with advocates, community service organisations, government reps and sector partners.
- Championing the value, legitimacy and capability of LLE at every level of the system.
So, what does this look like on a day-to-day basis?
On any given day you will navigate a mixture of activities and priorities. Your “to-do” list could include: representing the priorities of our LLE leaders in a sector meeting, reviewing key sector documents and facilitating a consultation, and responding to emails from stakeholders. You might then check in with the Lived Experience Advocate Service Coordinator to talk through an advocacy opportunity.
About you
Your success will rely heavily on your:
- passion and commitment to championing LLE priorities, values and principles
- careful and considered approach to communication and well-honed advocacy skills. You will have a commitment to co-design in your stakeholder processes and be dedicated to ethical decision making and trauma informed approaches.
- ability to engage and build relationships across the health system, including senior leaders from community organisations and people at all levels of government.
- policy/document analysis skills and ability to write clear and compelling documents and correspondence
- ability to prioritise competing demands and manage projects to a high level
- strong judgement applied to problem solving, as you will operate with a level of autonomy.
You are a confident and influential individual who uses contemporary leadership approaches both to inspire sector colleagues, and when representing the sector in various committees, meetings and advocacy activities.
We require someone with relevant academic qualifications and/or equivalent experience who has a track record advocating for audiences including government, community, people with LLE, and media.
