In 2021, the ATDC partnered with the Tasmanian Government through DoH and PHT to work collaboratively on the identification of solutions to improve the sharing of data and information within the ATOD sector. This Options Paper is the result of that partnership and the consultations that have occurred with CSOs and across government.
The ATDC has consulted broadly with service providers who are funded by either DoH and/or PHT and investigated the data sharing implementation models of other States and Territories.
Tasmanian providers broadly support the sharing of data, and associated risks and benefits.
Options for sharing data and information in the Tasmanian ATOD sector support the objectives of the Reform Agenda and current and future needs of stakeholders. Existing data sources either available to, or provided by treatment providers, are essential to allow regular and detailed review and analysis, and to aid treatment providers in delivering quality person focused services. Timely data should be used to inform both treatment providers, and the service commissioners of Tasmania.
When developing the recommendations in this Options Paper, consideration has been given to future stages of data sharing between providers and commissioners. This paper has been written to inform longer-term potential uses of ATOD data in Tasmania, and therefore includes comprehensive information about best practice, government changes, barriers and other impacts, A staged implementation approach is necessary, and guidance on schedules, costs and resources is provided in this paper.
