The Alcohol and Drug Service is a statewide Tasmanian Government service that works alongside individuals and their families experiencing harms or issues caused by alcohol, tobacco and other drug use. Services are free, voluntary and confidential. Referrals can be made by anyone, including the person seeking treatment, as long as they have the consent of the person being referred. Services include:
- Consultation Liaison Service for staff, providing expert assessment, information, brief intervention, advice and shared care where appropriate.
- Opioid Pharmacotherapy Program providing opioid replacement therapy and support, from case managers and doctors, for the treatment of opioid dependence.
- Community Teams providing a range of psychosocial interventions including assessment, brief intervention, relapse prevention, counselling, therapy, key worker/case management, coordination of care, and psychoeducation for individuals, their family/friends/carers, and the community.
- Smoking Cessation Program offering education and support to health professionals helping their patients quit smoking / vaping.
- Inpatient Withdrawal Management Unit offering a statewide specialist 9-bed inpatient withdrawal unit which provides medically supported withdrawal from alcohol and / or other drugs as a part of an individual’s treatment plan.
